Eurovision is still on in Liverpool as hundreds dress up for the special event

The Eurovision Grand Final takes place tonight and despite the 2024 edition being held in Malmö, Sweden, a special event is underway in Liverpool, a year after the city hosted it.

Fans from across the country – and Europe – flocked to Liverpool’s Waterfront Exhibition Center tonight for ‘Malmo on the Mersey’, with many dressed to impress.

A group of girls there today are Eurovision regulars who came to town last year to watch it. Lizzie, who was wearing a Eurovision scarf, said: “We absolutely love Eurovision and have traveled all over for it in the past.

“Malmö wasn’t in the budget this year, but we love Liverpool and there’s still a lot of buzz in the city for it.”

Another group, Lynne, Raimondas and Matt, came with Svitlana from Ukraine, whom they sponsor, and said they were “rooting Ukraine!”

Hannah, Nat, Luka and Heather from Warrington even managed to get their hen do to coincide with the occasion.

Here are some of the best and weirdest costumes from today’s event.
