Group seen in dangerous Nuneaton pool near ‘no swimming sign’

Walkers were left horrified after seeing a group cool off in a dangerous pool in Nuneaton. Several people were seen in the freezing cold water at Ensors Pool yesterday afternoon (May 5).

Another stood on the rocks, a place where there have been incidents of teenagers throwing graves into the water in the past. Repeated pleas to stay out of the water seem to be falling on deaf ears.

The police and county council are very aware of the dangers of the pool, which has deep, cold water and potential cars at the bottom. In recent years emergency services have been called after five children were left in distress at the pool off Heath End Road and sadly there have been several tragic deaths, most recently in 2013 when Jake Butler, aged 19, he lost. his life after he got into trouble in the water.

Although it is not illegal to swim in the water, police, fire chiefs and councils have repeatedly urged people not to venture into the water, no matter how tempting it may be on a warm, sunny day.

It got to the stage in 2021 where fire crews were training in the water to deter people, but people, including children, kept diving into the water. It’s not just in warm weather.

Last December, 999 calls were made after a group of people were spotted swimming in the ice-cold waters of the pool.
