Boom as Brits defiantly book holidays to Tenerife and Lanzarote despite protests

Despite growing tensions and protests in Tenerife and Lanzarote, thousands of hardy British tourists are fighting back by planning holidays to the Canary Islands. On The Beach, a package tour firm, has seen sales boom – up by a third compared to figures before tensions escalated.

Bookings have also seen an upward trend, already 18% higher than the 2023 number, and the islands saw almost 14 million visitors last year. This marks a 13% increase on 2022 figures.

Local Samantha Hasala shared with The Sun: “A lot of people are saying, ‘We don’t want any more tourists here’ – but it’s not really about the British. It’s only because most of our tourists are British. We love the British. .”

Leigh Buckingham, who recently secured a package holiday on April 26, remarked: “I saw the protests but it didn’t stop me – it actually reminded me to book. We like it there. We go almost every year. Who can argue. with lots of sun, sand and blood”.

On The Beach’s Zoe Harris said: “We’ve looked closely at the number of bookings since the protests and it looks like it’s only encouraged more Brits to book. Thousands have put their holiday plans into action over the past few weeks,” reports Birmingham Live.

“We expect more bookings to fly.” Interestingly, the seven magnificent Canary Islands — home to 2.2 million residents — welcomed nearly 14 million international visitors in 2023, a 13 percent increase over the previous year.
