The pictures show all the empty shops along Birmingham New Street

The bullring has had what the TikTok generation might call a glow over the past 12 months. Last summer, as our photo gallery shows, empty units plagued the center as the shopping center waited for stores to move into larger units and new occupiers such as Marks & Spencer, Bershka and Pull & Bear to move in.

Since then it has flourished, especially at the former Debenham’s end, where we will soon be getting Toca Social and new Zara branches. Outside the mall, things are still a work in progress.

We strolled along historic New Street to see how things are going outside for shoppers. From the Bullring to Victoria Square, 20 units are currently closed to customers.
