Emergency crews tap off the road after a two-car crash in Marple Bridge

A road in Stockport has been cordoned off this morning after a crash.

The smash happened on Compstall Road in the Marple Bridge area, close to Portland Wine and the Northumberland Arms pub, at around 7.40am this morning (Friday). A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said two cars were involved.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to the scene. A section of the road was blocked.

No serious injuries are believed to have been reported at this stage Barbie understand. Some emergency vehicles remain at the scene, although the incident is believed to have been cleared from the road.

Stagecoach posted on X: “383/384/808 School Srv Due to a police incident on Compstall Rd, services will be unable to complete journeys 383 terminating in Cherry Tree and 384 terminating in Marple until further notice.”

Another tweet at 8.35am said: “383/384 Srv Back to normal route through Compstall after earlier police incident but due to traffic congestion services will be delayed.”

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesman said: “Today (Friday 3 May), two fire engines from Offerton and Marple fire stations, plus the technical response unit from the fire station Ashton, they were called to reports about 7:45. a crash involving two cars on Compstall Road, Marple Bridge.

“Firefighters worked alongside colleagues from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Police to ensure the safety of the vehicles and the area and were in attendance for around 40 minutes.”
