The supercomputer predicts a record finish to the Premier League season for Manchester United

Manchester United suffered their 14th Premier League defeat of the season on Sunday after being beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Leandro Tossard scored the only goal of the game, converting Kai Havertz’s low cross with just 20 minutes on the clock. To their credit, United pushed for an equaliser, but failed to create clear and meaningful chances.

The defeat left them eighth in the standings with just two games left to play. They face Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night and then travel to Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day of the season on Sunday.

Currently three points behind Newcastle in the table, Wednesday night’s meeting could prove to be a season-defining one for both clubs. Sixth place secures a place in the Conference League, but the result of the FA Cup final could see the sixth-placed team promoted to the Europa League.

As for United, a sixth-place finish would guarantee them Europa League qualification for next term, as their FA Cup final opponents Manchester City are assured of Champions League qualification. Whatever the outcome of the final, therefore, United would qualify for the Europa League.

However, on current form, you’d be brave to back United to finish sixth. They have won just two of their last 11 Premier League games and have scored just one goal in their last three.
