The outcome was not what the family had hoped for as SDG OPP confirmed Monday afternoon that 51-year-old Brian Lush had been located.

The OPP issued a statement just before 4:00pm on Monday, indicating that Lush had been found deceased. Police said no foul play is suspected and closed the manhunt that began on April 24.

Lush was reported missing that day after his family never heard from him. He was returning home to Newfoundland and his truck was located at a PetroPass station near Highway 401 and Summerstown Road. Lush had left his personal belongings in the vehicle and was last seen on surveillance footage from the station.

The family began posting about the search for Lush on Facebook and the SDG OPP initiated a missing person search. That search would involve his canine unit, aerial drone, helicopter, detachment officers and area search and rescue volunteers.

In the 48 hours since the initial reports, the OPP asked anyone with photos and video footage of the Highway 401 corridor and routes between the Summerstown exit and Boundary Road in Cornwall to pass them on to investigators.

The OPP’s latest update came Friday afternoon, indicating it had completed a ground search of Lush as investigators continued to process tips from the public.

Shelley Lush-Smolders confirmed the tragic news in a widely shared Facebook post on Monday afternoon, saying that Brian Lush had been found, but the result was not what anyone wanted to hear. She thanked those who offered help and were already sending messages of sympathy and prayers to the family.
