12-year-old boy injured by car on city street as man arrested in hit-and-run investigation

Police were investigating a hit-and-run accident in which a 12-year-old boy was injured. A man was arrested in connection with the crash.

West Midlands Police said officers were called to Nineveh Road, Soho, at 4.40pm yesterday, Monday 13 May. The young man was rushed to the hospital, but his injuries did not change his life.



A 37-year-old man was detained on suspicion of failing to stop at an accident. He was in custody for questioning.

A spokesman said: “We were called to reports that a child had been hit by a car in Nineveh Road, Birmingham, at 4.40pm yesterday. A 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which luckily were not. We arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of failing to stop at an accident and he is currently in custody for questioning.”

Traffic data monitor Inrix posted: “Nineveh Road both ways closed, heavy traffic due to police incident between A4040 Handsworth New Road and Bacchus Road.”
