13 things you’ll remember if you hung out at Krazyhouse

In the early 1990s, The Krazyhouse on Wood Street burst onto the city center scene.

Affectionately known as K! for loyal clubbers, the club became famous for its indie, rock and alternative scene and was also synonymous with Liverpool’s students. Featuring three floors with different genres of music on each, it was also loved for its quirky tracks and drink deals.

But in 2018, the nightclub’s closure was mourned by many as the end of an era. Even those who haven’t been to the K for years felt a small wave of sadness to learn that their favorite evening would be no more, the ECHO previously reported.

But although the Krazyhouse itself has now closed its doors – it was not to be lost forever. The same year it closed, the venue reopened as Electrik and over the years has hosted Krazyhouse reunion nights.

13. Sticky floors

Sure, many clubs have a certain layer of sticky grime underfoot, but Krazyhouse took it to another level. One minute you could be at Nirvana and the next you could be hopping around, shoeless, looking for your lost shoe that had become glued to the gloop below.

12. How elegant you feel when you drink Faustini

For many, Krazyhouse ignites memories of Fautini. It might have been cheaper than the cheap paperback – and many will remember that it cost about a fiver for a whole 500ml bottle.

11. That weird Red Stripe drink deal

Among the drink offerings at Krazyhouse was the Red Stripe offering. It meant you had to buy three cans to take at once, and if you didn’t share them, you’d be stuck holding them on the dance floor.

10. Unexpected dance floor fillers

If you were used to Krazyhouse, one song would have crowds heading straight to the dance floor. Nothing filled the top floor like the Happy Days theme song.

9. Drunkenly watching 80s cartoons

Years ago, Krazyhouse had a TV screen, but it didn’t show what you expected. Strangely, Thundercats and He-Man always seemed to play.

8. The small food hatch

For today’s clubbers, something like this would be an absolute dream. The little food hatch at Krazyhouse is well remembered for their chips, which many swear were microwaved.

7. Scrambled eggs at 2 in the morning

Back in the day, booze wasn’t the only thing clubbers could buy. The bar also sold popsicles and even creme eggs.

6. Macarena dancing to Nine Inch Nails

Once upon a time, signature dances hit the dance floor – but not quite like this. It would make a great Tik Tok today though.

5. Random injuries

Krazyhouse was definitely more than just bars and dance floors. Occasionally you’d hurt your hand on the punch machine or spend a fortune trying to drunkenly crack the impossible Crystal Maze arcade game.

4. Bill Bailey lookalike selfies

This guy was a Krazyhouse regular. They used to shout from the DJ booth announcing that a “special guest” was there and people would always try to take photos with him.

3. Bizarre art

The rhinoceros statue on the third floor – what was it about? Over the years it has certainly become part of the furniture and has appeared in many night shots, probably taken with digital cameras.

2. You can never fit enough toilet roll in your pocket

Like many nightclubs, you had to be quick if you didn’t bring your own. If you didn’t stuff your bag by midnight, there wouldn’t be any left for the rest of the night.

1. Surreal Thomas the Tank Engine Flashbacks

The lights always came up at the end of the night, and the last song was often not what you’d expect. Sometimes it would be the Thomas the Tank theme song or another TV show.
