Jurgen Klopp should hand Liverpool’s ‘special’ youngster his Premier League debut against Wolverhampton

In his final game in charge of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is set to hand a “special” youngster his Premier League debut.

It all came down to that. One final game now remains of the Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool. Even writing those words doesn’t even feel real.

Klopp has been synonymous with everything to do with Liverpool over the past nine years. He completely transformed the club and brought the Reds back to their glory years.

It doesn’t really feel like his chapter should end. However, he made a completely understandable decision.

Why Lewis Koumas deserves his Premier League debut

Fortunately, Klopp leaves Liverpool in a truly healthy situation. This season he has built an exciting young team and promoted a lot of youth players.

Among them was Lewis Koumas, who is a very promising young man. He showed it in flashes on his Liverpool debut in the FA Cup against Southampton, or in pre-season last summer with the first team.

However, since making his competitive debut and scoring his first first-team goal, Koumas has yet to make an appearance under Klopp.

That should change on the final day of the season. There is no more pressure on Liverpool and this is the perfect opportunity for Klopp to give someone like Koumas a chance in the Premier League.

What did Koumas do two years in a row at Liverpool?

Koumas finished the season as the U21s’ top scorer – a feat he also achieved at U18 level last season for Liverpool.

At the start of the season, Jurgen Klopp named Lewis Koumas in what he called a “special” group from the club’s academy.

He is clearly a very bright talent and someone who will enjoy working with Arne Slot next season.
