Christophe Dugarry underlines Birmingham City’s hope after ‘exchange’ with club bosses

Christophe Dugarry has vowed to follow the Blues in their pursuit of promotion and declared: “I have Birmingham City in my heart.”

The French World Cup winner returned to B9 at the weekend to take part in BluesFest, where his team of ex-pros, celebrities and influencers beat a Barry Fry-led team. Dugarry is fondly remembered in these parts for his brief spell at St Andrew’s in the club’s early days in the Premier League under Steve Bruce.

In April 2003, Dugarry – on loan the previous January from Bordeaux – scored five goals in four consecutive wins for the Blues as the side secured top-flight status. While his second season at St Andrew’s was not as successful, Dugarry holds a special place in the Bluenoses’ hearts.

He visited the second city following the Blues’ relegation to League One but spoke positively about the club’s future after meeting some of the management team Knighthead has assembled.

“I’m told there is a new project with new management, so I’ll be watching it very carefully. I’m excited about it,” Dugarry said.

“I care about this club, even though I played here for about a year. I have Birmingham City in my heart so I will continue to follow you very closely.
