Wakefield Music Fest brings a variety of styles and genres into a familiar atmosphere

Music festival season is already underway, with plenty of events taking place over either a full day or a whole weekend. There are a bunch more that have been announced slowly but surely with anticipation building, with acts being added regularly. Following on from the success of the ‘Reggae Fest’ held in the heart of Wakefield in South Kingstown on April 20th, another joyous occasion will take place at the same location on May 25th. It’s simply called “Wakefield Music Fest” and there’s a lot to offer, with live music, entertainment, vendors and refreshments available from 2pm to 10pm. Like the previous festival, this event is presented by the Contemporary Theater Company located at 327 Main Street.

The lineup for the “Wakefield Music Fest” is filled with some of southern New England’s most talented and well-known bands and musicians spanning the lineup. Hailing from the seaside village of Mystic, Connecticut, Mystic Dead have been a staple for fans of The Grateful Dead in the area, while also staying true to their own creative talents, which have been a key element of the band’s mantra in 2018. The Providence Act Timeless will perform a wide range of covers including rock & roll standards such as Carl Perkins’ “Blue Suede Shoes” and Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode” as well as more recent hits such as “Sex on Fire” of King of Leon. ” and “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton. Rhode Island Music Hall of Famer and Saxon legend Dan Moretti, who has performed with the likes of Robert Plant, Ray Charles, Stevie Nicks and Aretha Franklin, will lead his Soul Jazz Collective with blues, soul and funk artist from Boston, Sonya Rae. Taylor being included as a special guest. Offering something for the country music fans in attendance, Bulletproof plans to showcase that specific style while topping it off with an amped-up rock & roll edge.

For the evening portion of the festival, Narragansett funk-jam band Guess Method will have people dancing all over the place with their infectious beats. Rounding things off will be Brass Force, who have been performing for nearly 40 years as they bring a brand of high-octane horn funk music. Like Timeless, their repertoire spans several decades, while being a fixture at numerous venues and private parties. If that’s not enough, kids will get to meet Bluey from the ABC Kids TV series of the same name. Super Mario from the legendary “Super Mario Bros” video game series. it will be there too.

If by any chance the weather doesn’t cooperate, which it sometimes does around these parts, then the rain date will be the following day on May 26th at the same time and location. Children under the age of 12 can enter the festival for free and there is free parking in the municipal lots. It should also be noted that proceeds from the “Wakefield Music Fest” will benefit the public of the organization.
