Sheffield Wednesday line up their first signing of the summer after surviving the Championship

Sheffield Wednesday are already lining up their first signing of the summer after securing Championship survival.

Sheffield Wednesday beat Sunderland 2-0 on the final day of the Championship season to secure their league status for another year.

It was a dramatic climax to an equally dramatic but miraculous season under Danny Rohl.

The Owls are winless after 13 games of the season, becoming the first Championship side to beat the drop after going winless for so long at the start of a campaign.

And quickly, attention turns to the summer and the 2024/25 season.

Sheffield Wednesday have a horde of first-team players out of contract in the summer and others leaving when their loan deals expire.

But it seems the Owls already have their first summer signing in their sights; loan star James Beadle.

Sheffield Wednesday plan to reunite James Beadle

Reports emerged earlier this week suggesting that Brighton have some headaches in the goalkeeping department.

Beadle has impressed for Sheffield Wednesday this season, keeping eight clean sheets in 18 Championship outings since joining in January.

But The Athletic claimed Brighton could instead look to promote fellow Brighton man Carl Rushworth; spent this season on loan at Swansea City, where he was named Player of the Season.

Now, however, Alan Nixon has revealed on Patreon that Wednesday and Swansea are both keen to re-sign their goalkeepers on loan this summer.

He wrote: “Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday will be at Brighton this week for goalkeepers Carl Rushworth and James Beadle.

“The two loanees have been outstanding in the Championship and both the Swans and the Owls are keen to have them for another season.”

The one thing Sheffield Wednesday need to watch out for

A return for Beadle makes a lot of sense for Sheffield Wednesday.

He became a huge favorite among the supporters for his ever-improving and confident performances, which played a huge role in getting them over.

Brighton will obviously want Beadle to play at the highest possible level next season and a full Championship campaign looks the most likely outcome.

But the Seagulls may want Beadle to be challenged at the top end of the division.

If Rohl can get the players he wants this summer, then the club’s form in recent months could suggest the Owls will be right up there.

But those transfers may not come until very late in the summer, by which time Brighton have decided where to send Beadle.

So it seems that Sheffield Wednesday may need to keep an eye on other Championship clubs who will be challenging before signing someone this summer, coming in for Beadle.

But Beadle seemed to have really enjoyed his time in S6 and if the decision is left to him, he could be returning to Wednesday in the very near future.
