The MTV Movie and TV Awards will not be held in 2024

The MTV Movie and TV Awards has been suspended for 2024. It comes as the event undergoes a makeover and is not expected to return until 2025.

Conformable The Hollywood Reporter, a source claimed the show will return next year with a new “reimagined” format. Last year, the awards ceremony aired amid the Writers Guild of America strike, with host Drew Barrymore walking out in solidarity with the strikers.

The ceremony featured pre-recorded segments and acceptance speeches, as well as clips from various nominated TV shows and films. Categories, nominations and winners were all announced via a voiceover.

No reason was given as to why the awards show was postponed, appropriately MailOnline. When Drew Barrymore stepped down as host last year, it was agreed that she would not return to host the 2024 edition.

At the time, she said: “I have listened to the writers, and to truly respect them, I will be stepping down from hosting the MTV Movie and TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike. Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television is born out of their creation.

“And until a solution is reached, I’m choosing to wait, but I’ll be watching from home and I hope you’ll join me. Thanks to MTV, who were truly some of the best partners I’ve ever worked with.

“And I can’t wait to be a part of that next year, when I can really celebrate everything that MTV has created, which is a show that allows fans to choose who the awards are for and is truly inclusive.”

Big winners from last year’s show included HBO’s The Last of Us, Scream VI, Top Gun: Maverick and Wednesday. Hollywood legend Jennifer Coolidge also received the Comic Genius Award in honor of her career.
