Nightclub hosting Baby Reindeer’s ‘real Martha’ Fiona Harvey cancels meet and greet

A Coventry nightclub said tonight it had canceled a public meet and greet with Fiona Harvey – who is believed to be the true inspiration for the character Martha in the Netflix series Baby Reindeer. Kasbah nightclub said the event was canceled due to “negative publicity”.

The Primrose Hill Street venue added that the event was “deemed unsafe”. It comes after the club received a major backlash to Ms Harvey’s appearance.

Kasbah previously said Ms Harvey – who has said she plans to sue Netflix for defamation – will “sign autographs, take selfies and maybe take home some lucky reindeer to hang on her curtains”.

The Scotsman, 58, recently gave an exclusive interview to Piers Morgan after internet sleuths linked her to the show, which Netflix said was a true story and claimed she was the real-life Martha real. Ms Harvey denied ever stalking Richard Gadd, who plays himself as opposed to the character in the show.

The Kasbah released a statement on Facebook this evening announcing that the meet and greet would be cancelled. The club sarcastically thanked the media for giving it “free publicity”.

The statement said: “Unfortunately, the promoter of Saturday’s date with Fiona Harvey deemed the event unsafe and canceled the appearance due to negative publicity. However, we would like to thank him for considering our location.

“In particular, we would like to thank Metro, Daily Mail, BBC, CoventryLive, Birmingham Mail, ITV News, The Independent, NME, Glasgow Live, MSN, The Sun, Daily Mirror, Warwick Boar, Business Insider, The Tab, CNN and numerous Instagram meme pages with a total of 33 million followers for your support and free advertising – you are the gift that keeps on giving.
