Coventry named UK’s car theft hotspot as owners urged to protect vehicles

Coventry has been named the worst place in the UK outside London for getting your car stolen. An analysis of police data revealed that Coventry, excluding London, is the top hotspot for vehicle offences, with a rate of 15.07 per 1,000 residents.

Walsall in the Black Country closely follows in fourth place, with a rate of 13.68. Birmingham also features on the list, coming in seventh place.

The figures underline the significant issue of vehicle crime in the West Midlands, with thousands falling victim over recent years and calls for police chiefs to step up their efforts to combat the problem. The list was compiled using offending data from last year by Online Marketing Surgery and West Midlands Garage Doors.

Car owners residing in high-crime areas are being urged to enhance their security measures to protect their vehicles. They stated: “In a world where security concerns are ever-present, safeguarding our homes becomes paramount.”

“In areas characterized by high crime rates, the risk of burglary and vehicle crime is significantly increased. Homes with inadequately secured garage doors become prime targets for opportunistic criminals seeking easy access to valuable belongings or vehicles. Without proper security measures in place, homeowners in these regions remain vulnerable to potential break-ins and property damage,” reports Birmingham Live.
