Thousands of Leicester City supporters flooded the city center on Sunday to celebrate the Foxes’ promotion to the Premier League after they set a joint-record 31 league wins this season to secure their eighth second-tier title.

Former Leicester City player Matt Piper looked back on his last nine months in the Championship on the When You’re Smiling podcast: “It was an incredible season.

“I think he (Enzo Maresca) is a good manager who believes in his players. He believes in that belief. All the players speak so well of him.

“The other thing that shocked me was that after we won the Championship they all flocked around the gaffer’s house! I’ve played for 13 managers in my career and I never thought I was going to the gaffer’s house for a party!

“That shows you how close he is to this group.”

After lifting the Championship trophy, vice-captain Marc Albrighton spoke to BBC Radio Leicester’s Owynn Palmer-Atkin about winning another accolade with the club and his future at the club: “The feeling is like no other. There is nothing to describe it.

“Obviously I’ve had days like this before, but you forget the feeling and the joy it brings when you’re on that pitch with your family and your teammates lifting that trophy.

“I’m always grateful for moments like this.

“I was a bit reluctant to lift the trophy, I haven’t played that much this season but he (Jamie Vardy) is very persistent so I had no choice!

“It’s an incredible feeling to go back to the first time I asked, not many clubs do that. We’re now looking forward to what next season brings. I’m looking forward to seeing us, probably on the other side.

“I’m 99.9 per cent sure it’s (the last time I’ll play in a Leicester City shirt). There’s no official confirmation but I think this is it. You know what – to go out like this is just fitting and and simply complete 10 incredible years (at the club).”

Academy graduate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also spoke of his desire to get his boyhood club back into top-flight football this season, adding: “I’ll look back on this season with great memories. I loved every minute of it, even the highs and lows. It’s been a fantastic year. I’m so happy we were able to end it with some silverware.

“If you had told me this was going to happen a year ago, I would have broken your hand for it. Can’t complain – he hums.

“It is amazing. These are the things you dream of as a child. It’s hard to put into words, to be honest, it’s a little surreal after last year’s lows.

“I’m so happy because it’s been such a tough year and I’m back now and I’ve helped the team get promoted. That’s all I’ve ever wanted, so I’m a happy man.”
