Ethan Mason (4) dies days after dad gave his life to save him

Parents cannot imagine a greater love than our love for our children, and it is this love that sent Barry Mason back into his burning home to save his precious son, Ethan Mason.

The town of Wigan in Manchester, England, is in mourning after an early morning fire on April 14 claimed the lives of a father and son. Witnesses saw Barry, 45, run back into the burning building to save his 4-year-old son.

The father rushed to try to save the son

Requesters rushed Ethan to a local hospital in critical condition. And father Barry Mason lost his life while trying to save his son. Following the surgery, Ethan was placed in a medically induced coma while he was treated. However, little Ethan died three days later on March 17 with burns over 70% of his body.

Detective Inspector Lee Gridley of Greater Manchester Police’s Wigan district told The Independent: “This is a devastating incident and all our thoughts are with the family of this boy who had his whole life ahead of him.”

A tragedy for the whole community

He continued: “Along with the previous death, this is a tragedy for the Wigan community and I know many people will be shocked by this heartbreaking news. I hope people will join us in sending our absolute best wishes to everyone involved in this incident as they begin their journey of healing.”

In accordance with Manchester Evening Newsthe fire started in the kitchen of the house around 2:30 am. Although police are investigating the fire, they do not believe it is suspicious.

Six family members were in the house that night. Ethan’s mother, Kelly Wilson Kupper, and her other children survived the tragic fire and are left to mourn and rebuild after losing so much. Jessica Wilson, Kelly’s sister, has started a GoFundMe campaign to help Kelly cope with the financial burdens she faces amid her immense grief. The fund raised more than 61,000 euros, which is about 66,000 dollars.

Barry’s family described him as a “devoted dad” and a “superhero”. Jessica’s sister-in-law shared on her Facebook post: “Barry, we are heartbroken. Such a gentle giant and a devoted father till your last breath. Words will never describe how grateful we are to you, hold our baby tight. There.”
