GMB fans slam ‘absolute joke’ as Susanna Reid asks ‘how’

Good Morning Britain viewers were quick to react after a heated interview on Tuesday’s programme.

Hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls welcomed Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride into the studio via video link to discuss the new welfare reforms. It comes after the Prime Minister last month announced plans to end the “culture of bad grades”.

The Conservatives want disabled people and those with long-term conditions to return to work. But Susanna asked Mr Stride how a job coach would help someone who needed a hip replacement and faced an 18-month wait for one.

Mr Stride said that while he could not comment on individual cases, adaptations, such as not taking the stairs, could be made to help people. Susanna chimed in with, “She’s in crippling pain.

“My point, Mr. Stride, is that there are record waiting lists that need to be addressed. People cannot access mental health support without long waiting lists, and they cannot access physical healthcare in the NHS. at present.”

While the minister said the Government had made some progress in tackling waiting lists, fans were not happy as a clip was shared on GMB’s official X account. Thomas said: “I am a carer for my disabled wife.
