Danny Rohl could now lose the key figure at Sheffield Wednesday after a new contract was revealed

A key Sheffield Wednesday figure has now revealed he could leave the club this summer.

For the first time in eight months, Sheffield Wednesday could relax after confirming their Championship status for next season.

The Owls remained unbeaten in their final six games of the campaign but still left the last day to avoid relegation by three points.

A 2-0 win over Sunderland secured them safety and sent players and supporters into huge celebrations at the weekend.

While the club can be very proud of their success, the board and manager will immediately get back to work as they look to tie down vital assets to new contracts.

The likes of Josh Windass, Barry Bannan and Di’Shon Bernard are out of contract this summer, while the Owls have already begun “discussions” with the former over extending his stay at Hillsborough.

Staying in the Championship will be given a huge boost on Wednesday in their bid to keep hold of some of their key players. However, the team are not the only assets to worry about.

Sheffield Wednesday could lose a key figure in just a month

Owls assistant coach Chris Powell has confirmed that his contract does in fact expire this summer, despite only joining in October.

Speaking to The Star, Powell said: “There are discussions and we know this happens at every club at the end of every season about which players you would like to keep and who will move on – and what you would like. As I said, this happens at every club and we are no different.

“My contract ends in June itself, I haven’t signed until the end of next year like everyone else. That was only because when I met Dan in October – we’d only met a couple of times when I was with England and he was with Germany – we didn’t really know each other and I wasn’t sure how it was done. they would all leave.”

How important is keeping Chris Powell at Hillsborough?

Sheffield Wednesday’s main priority will be to tie down players and Chris Powell’s praise for the club suggests he has no intention of leaving this summer.

However, like Danny Rohl, Powell has clearly had a very positive impact on the team since his arrival.

The 54-year-old has previously worked with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, so there’s no doubt his coaching skills, as well as his experience, can play a key role in Wednesday’s ambitions.

Rohl’s coaching staff has been excellent this season, with Akim Famewo being one player who has expressed his appreciation for Powell.

While the Owls should work to retain key players, they certainly can’t forget about Powell.
