A30 traffic in Cornwall is disrupted with closures from tonight as ‘final stages’ of upgrade underway

Cornwall’s biggest road will again be closed overnight from tonight and into next week as the mammoth project approaches its ‘final stage’. The A30 closures have been carried out several times already this year as part of the £330m project.

Work on the dual carriageway began in 2020 and is now nearing completion as National Highways say tonight’s closure will allow workers to get on with changes to the vital route. It read: “We are now in the final stages of our upgrade to the A30.”

This round of closures will affect the A30 between Scorrier and Boxheater and will be for surface and infrastructure works. The closure will be in place from today (May 7) until Thursday (May 9) from 8pm to 6am then with the road fully closed over the weekend.

Weekend closure will begin on Friday (May 10) at 8:00 p.m. It will not reopen until Monday (May 13) at 6:00am. Diversions will be in place to assist motorists and there is a change to the usual diversion route.

During these closures westbound vehicular traffic will need to be diverted via Chacewater to avoid the low bridge at Scorrier. This temporary change to the usual diversion route has been agreed with Cornwall Council due to ongoing work to repair a collapsed mine shaft on the A393 Sandy Lane.
