Plans for Sheffield food and drink venue to be built on iconic city center site

Sheffield is set to get a new food, drink and entertainment venue unlike any other – if plans get the go-ahead.

A planning application has been submitted to Sheffield City Council for the eye-catching Thor’s Tipi, which would be built on an empty plot on Pinstone Street.

The land, which also borders Furniture Gate and Union Street, was previously the side of the Mid City House office block, which was demolished earlier this year.

At the time, there were no plans for what would replace the iconic Sheffield building. Now that the site has been cleared, the planning application for the temporary tipi structure has been submitted on behalf of Fabler & Co. Ltd.

It would be the second Thor’s Tipi to arrive in Yorkshire, with a site already located in the grounds of York’s Principal Hotel.

The application explains that the venue would offer live music as well as food and drink and would be open to the public 364 days a year – closing only at Christmas – between 11am and 11pm.

The venue would consist of a single-storey building with “scaffold-style timber cladding” and PVC roll-up windows, topped by a teepee structure.
