A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was hit in Greater Manchester.

The 32-year-old man was detained while the officer was hit by a car after being called to a domestic incident in Beech Road, Sale, at around 10.10pm on Sunday.

The officer was ejected “intentionally” and was “in and out of consciousness,” Greater Manchester Police said.

The force did not reveal whether the officer involved was male or female, but said they were taken to hospital and suffered a broken ankle.

Following the incident, another 30-year-old man was detained on suspicion of assisting a criminal. Both men arrested remain in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Walton said: “Our officers take to the streets every day to keep our communities safe. They don’t expect to be targeted in this way.

“Luckily we had a quick response and we have two suspects arrested and in custody. Our investigation is progressing well and there is no further threat to members of the public.

“Our officers were extremely proactive and arrests were made quickly. This is a clear example of the courage our officers put themselves in harm’s way every day in Greater Manchester.

“We wish the injured officer a full recovery and hope they are back on the streets and fighting crime in Greater Manchester very soon.”
