Former Leeds United striker Rafa Mujica has surpassed the 20-goal mark in Portugal and is reportedly set for a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Sadd.

Leeds’ investment in youth signings in recent years has been instrumental in the club’s future business.

Crysencio Summerville, Pascal Struijk and Mateo Joseph will make it worthwhile on their own, but there are other impressive talents that have slipped through the net.

Rafa Mujica is leaving Leeds in 2021, now shining in Portugal

Leeds signed Spanish striker Rafa Mujica from Barcelona’s youth team in 2019 and he never made a competitive appearance for the club before being sold in 2021 when Marcelo Bielsa was still in charge.

He initially moved to Spain before more recently arriving in Portugal’s Liga with Arouca, a side who have been in the top flight for the past three seasons, looking to establish themselves as regular contenders for a place in Europe.

Mujica has been the star of the show this season with 20 league goals and three assists this season.

Now a Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda revealed that the striker is set for a big move away from Arouca but will not be staying in Europe.

Instead, at the age of 25, he agreed to join Qatari outfit Al-Sadd for a fee of £8.6m, a league where fellow Spaniard, the former striker from Leeds, Rodrigo:

He could have been a solid goalscorer at Leeds

Mujica showed the potential in Portugal that Leeds believed he would have when they signed him in 2019.

It’s just a shame he had to leave us to find that top form, which has now earned him a big move.

For a 25-year-old, though, it’s bizarre that he’s jumped ship to move to Qatar, where he won’t be playing at the highest level at all.
