‘I don’t want to suffer’ – Champions League manager reveals Manchester City fear ahead of 2024/25 campaign

City Football Group’s Girona will compete in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League campaign for the first time in the club’s history, it was confirmed at the weekend.

The Catalan club are widely seen as the biggest success story within the City Football Group and away from Manchester City, having battled Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for the top spots in La Liga this season.

With a strong squad at their disposal, investing in an ideology implemented by a highly regarded manager, Girona will now be playing at the top of European football next season following their last run in the Spanish top flight.

Manchester City supporters will be more than familiar with some of the names played by Girona this season too, with on-loan right-back Yan Couto forming part of the back four, while Savio – who is expected to join Pep Guardiola’s side – excelling on the wings

“I would like to go to Liverpool because in Vallecas I always played Rayo-Liverpool,” admitted Michel. “But any team you talk about at European level, from Bayern to Juve, they’re teams I’ve seen on TV every Wednesday and it makes me excited.”

Continuing on the subject of City Football Group and the reigning Premier League champions, Míchel said: “I wouldn’t want Manchester City to be our rival because we have a certain connection and apart from that, I don’t want to suffer.” .

Manchester City failed to retain their UEFA Champions League title this season, eventually crashing out of the competition in the quarter-finals with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Real Madrid.

City failed to lose a single game in regulation time throughout the tournament, knocking out Crvena zvezda, BSC Young Boys and RB Leipzig in the group stage before going past Copenhagen in the round of 16.

A busy summer transfer window is expected from the Etihad Stadium bosses in the coming months as they look to equip Pep Guardiola with the strongest possible squad to aim for a historic Treble and possibly another.
