Summer transfers and signings ahead of 2024/25 ‘epic’ – Doug King sets Coventry’s ‘destiny’

Doug King has laid out his intentions for what he hopes will be “an epic 2024/25 campaign” for Coventry City as the club “continue to push for promotion” to the Premier League.

The owner says the Sky Blues raised their profile by introducing themselves to national and international audiences during their “heroic” FA Cup semi-final comeback performance against Manchester United and promised fans the club’s recruitment team will “keep on working”. diligently’ to ensure Mark Robins’ side will have the ‘strongest squad possible’ at the end of the summer transfer window.

On the supporters – the club’s “lifeblood” – he spoke of their amazing turnout at Wembley and revealed the “wait is almost over” for next season’s season tickets, when they hope to surpass the record figure of 19,500 for 2023/24. to make CBS Arena a “citadel, enabling our team to reach its destiny.”

As we reflect on the 2023/24 season, we can look back to another exciting season for this football club and its supporters and partners.

Once again we competed for the play-off places in a very strong EFL Championship, just missing out on a top six position in the last two/three weeks. Throughout the season there were some amazing wins and memories that will stay with us for a long time, both at home and on the road, and we witnessed exciting, attacking football (lots of goals scored, a few too many conceded) that entertained the Sky Blues Supporters and neutral.

The FA Cup run was truly historic. Reaching our first semi-final for thirty-seven years and putting in such a heroic performance against Manchester United introduced our club back to national and international audiences. I know we are all proud of our team who refused to let the opportunity pass them by and instigated a turbocharged comeback for the ages that will never be forgotten…

Wembley Stadium once again full of Sky Blues supporters was an amazing sight, rightly praised and an occasion that only football can bring and that simply cannot be matched by any other sporting experience. Another incredible day in the history of this Club.

Last summer was a significant transfer window for the Club with a considerable number of players being brought in. We smashed the Club’s record transfer fee, which had gone back over twenty years, and there was a significant increase in the overall quality and depth of the squad.

Under the leadership of Mark Robins and the coaching skills of Adi Viveash, along with the support of the football staff at Ryton, the team has developed throughout the season and we finish the campaign with a strong core of talented players, all ready to get back and go again in July.

With the appointment of Dr Claire-Marie Roberts in February as Performance Director, we are ensuring that our medical/fitness training and provision at Coventry City is at an elite level. The Championship is a relentless and grueling league and to be successful we need to ensure that our players are given the best personalized care in all aspects, both physically and mentally.

Infrastructure improvements at Ryton continue. Already the outside of the training ground has been transformed, with new pitches, parking and landscaping. While long-term building design and overhaul plans will take some time, we will be adding new facilities on site ready for the new season that will support our focus on strength and conditioning and player wellness and training.

We will also be working on several other aspects of the football club to continue the positive trajectory fans have experienced in a number of areas, including with our partners at the Coventry Building Society Arena, and we will keep you keep everyone posted in the coming weeks and months as they unfold.

The summer break will bring the Euros, of course, but I have no doubt that fans will also enjoy speculating about the downsides of the Club’s players. Our Head of Recruitment Dean Austin and his dedicated team have worked and will continue to work diligently to ensure that at the end of the transfer window we maintain our momentum and have the strongest squad possible as we continue to push for promotion to the top-flight where this club belongs.

After the Awards night on Sunday, I know the fans are very keen to buy their season tickets for the 2024/25 campaign and show their commitment to our club. The wait is almost over and details will be announced very soon.

Your support by buying your season ticket and attending matches is essential to the strength and future of the football club. Our journey cannot be accomplished without it. It’s as simple as that.

A record 19,500 fans bought season tickets for the 2023/24 campaign and our average attendance at the Coventry Building Society Arena was over 25,000, with a record attendance of over 30,262 for the Leeds game just a month… The packed house atmosphere has to be experienced to be believed and we want to attract even more supporters to the Coventry Building Society Arena for the new campaign to make our home a fortress, enabling our team to achieve their destiny.

We have been clear since taking over in January 2023 that our ambition is to return the Sky Blues to the top, and the amazing experiences we have had over the past eighteen months have only whetted everyone’s appetite.

Coventry City is a football club that is once again realizing how strong it can be when team and community come together and work in unison, so please make sure you don’t miss the next stage of this journey – if the last year and half is anything, it won’t be one to miss!

I have said since the beginning of my term that without everyone’s support, we will not succeed and we will not reach our destination and achieve the goals we have set for ourselves.
