The player who left Leeds last summer is now on the brink of the league title having already won promotion

Following Leeds United’s relegation last summer, a host of players have left Elland Road in a number of ways, both permanently and on loan.

Victor Orta’s relegation loan clause allowed some Leeds players to move quickly if a club was willing to pay wages. Eight senior stars have left Elland Road on loan, preventing Leeds from raising funds.

Diego Llorente and Rasmus Kristensen moved to Rome, while Max Wober, Brenden Aaronson and Robin Koch moved to Germany. Luis Sinisterra and Jack Harrison secured an instant return to the Premier League.

Marc Roca has moved to Spain with Real Betis but is expected to return to Elland Road in the summer. Sinisterra and Koch have since won permanent moves to both Bournemouth and Frankfurt respectively.

Tyler Roberts, Tyler Adams and Rodrigo left permanently for a fee, while Adam Forshaw and Joel Robles were invited back to Leeds for pre-season but without a new deal and were therefore free agents.

Neither accepted the invitation and Forshaw went to Norwich before joining Plymouth, while Robles moved to Saudi Arabia with second-tier side Al-Qadsiah and the goalkeeper is enjoying a brilliant season.

Joel Robles is on the brink of a league title after leaving Leeds

Starting the season with Robbie Fowler as coach until the end of October, Al Qadsiah were expected to be in the running for Saudi Arabia’s second leg after signing Andre Carillo, Mbaye Diagne and Max Power.

Despite Fowler’s exit, Al-Qadsiah went on to secure promotion to the Saudi Pro League, where they will face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr and Neymar’s Al-Hilal next season in the top flight.

Robles took a step closer to the title this week after a 2-2 draw against Ohod secured promotion. With three games to play, they sit ninth and have a better goal difference than second by 10.

Robles stats as Al-Qadsiah shines close to league title

Al-Qadsiah will almost certainly be champions unless they lose all three of their remaining league games, second-placed Al Kholood will win their last three games and there is a change of 10 goals.

Robles has been excellent for Al-Qadsiah since leaving Leeds, which came as little surprise given he started ahead of Illan Meslier in the last four Premier League games under manager Sam Allardyce.

The 33-year-old has played 31 times in the 2023-24 campaign, keeping an impressive 14 clean sheets and conceding just 27 goals as Robles and Al-Qadsiah close in on a second-tier Saudi title.
