The DWP is launching a major change to the scheme to help disabled people into work

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has launched a major change to a grant to help disabled people get into or stay in work. Grants can now be applied for online as the Access to Work scheme goes digital.

DWP funding is now available via the GOV.UK website as part of the DWP’s wider commitment to improving the lives of disabled people in the workplace, with an additional 400,000 disabled people taking up work last year. For many, the customer experience will be much easier and more efficient, with no difference in the information requested from the department.

Minister for Disability, Health and Work, Mims Davies MP, said: “Access to Work is helping thousands of disabled and ill people return to work by giving them and their employers the resources to help make appropriate adjustments at work. to Work continues to modernize the program to make it easier to apply for grants or make payments.”

There is no difference in the information required from the department when applying online. The digital option will mean an easier and more efficient customer experience for many.

Digitized core parts that people can apply for include:

  • Special aids and equipment
  • Support the workers
  • Commuting (and commuting)
  • Adaptations to premises or equipment
  • Communication support at the interview

People can also request payments online for:

  • Special aids and equipment
  • Support the workers
  • Adaptations to premises or equipment
  • Travel to work

To be eligible for the Access to Work scheme, people must be employed, self-employed, start work, take part in an internship/supported placement, take part in work experience/work trial or need communication support at the interview. Customers can still make Service Access claims by phone and mail.
