Firefighters rescue Jeremy Beagle trapped in garden wall

You may have heard of firefighters rescuing cats stuck in trees, but a mission for a team in the West Midlands was a little more unusual. The Stourbridge team were called to the rescue of a Beagle puppy that had become stuck in a brick wall.

The pup, Jeremy, stuck his head in the garden wall at his home yesterday morning (Tuesday 7). After about 30 minutes of trying to free him, the chicken’s owner called West Midlands Fire Service for help.

Within four minutes of being mobilized, supervisory manager Brett Mortimer and his team were on the scene at Farndale Close, Brierley Hill. He said: “We deal with all kinds of incidents and a job like this is about quick thinking and looking after the animal.

“It only took us a minute to free Jeremy. I wrapped a protective cover around his head and ears and freed him using manual handling.

“I’m proud of my team, who showed quick thinking to help an animal in distress. Despite his ordeal, Jeremy is said to be doing well at home. There was no obvious sign of injury and he was in good spirits when we left the scene.”

The crew advised his owner to take him to the vet for a checkup.
