Two men were injured in a crash which left the M40 closed for hours

A man was seriously injured in a crash on the M40 in the early hours of this morning. The northbound carriageway which crosses parts of Warwickshire is still closed while crash investigators examine the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance confirmed two men were injured in the crash, one seriously. He was put on advanced life support at the scene. The man was a passenger in a van that was involved in the accident along with a truck.




The driver of the van was also injured, although paramedics said his condition was not considered serious. Both men were taken to Coventry Hospital for treatment.

Police said the van, a white Ford, is believed to have rear-ended the truck. The driver and passenger were extricated from the vehicle by firefighters after becoming trapped.

The crash happened just before 3am between junction 12 and junction 13 of the M40 northbound. At the time of writing, the northbound carriageway between junction 12 for Gaydon and junction 14 for Leamington Spa was still closed. You can follow the latest on this incident on our live blog here.

The full ambulance statement

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a collision involving a van and a lorry between junctions 12 and 13 of the M40 northbound at 2.52am. Two ambulances, a paramedic and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care attended the scene.

“Upon arrival we discovered two patients, both men coming from the van. The passenger was found to be in serious condition and received advanced life support at the scene. The driver was treated for injuries that were not believed to be serious. Both men were treated. then taken to Coventry and Warwickshire University Hospital.”
