A man dies after his car crashed into a building in Melton town centre

A man has died after his car crashed into a building in Melton town center on Sunday (May 5). Leicestershire Police said the incident happened at 4.40pm, close to the Nottingham Road junction with the A607.

The 69-year-old man was driving a gray Renault Zoe and was driving along Wilton Road before the crash. The force said no other vehicles were believed to be involved.




Detectives are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the car beforehand to come forward. The force is also looking for any dash cams or CCTV footage.

Sergeant Emma Mitchell, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Emergency services were called to the scene following the incident but unfortunately the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. We are working to understand how this collision occurred and piece together the car’s movements prior to the incident.

“No other vehicles are believed to be involved. If you were in the area of ​​Wilton Road, Nottingham Road or the A607 at the time of the collision and think you saw something or captured something on your dash cam, please contact the police.

“We are also asking local businesses to check CCTV for any footage that may be of use.” Police are investigating on behalf of HM Coroner, anyone with information or footage that could help the investigation is asked to come forward online at or call 101 quoting 24*263153.
