The Sheffield Wednesday ace could receive a surprise call-up to Euro 2024 this summer

Ian Poveda, Ike Ugbo, Joey Phuthi and Di’Shon Bernard all featured in their senior squads, the latter helping Jamaica qualify for the Copa America next month.

Meanwhile, James Beadle, Bailey Cadamarteri and Pierce Charles have also joined their youth teams.

The Owls haven’t had that many players on the international stage for some time, however, with four of them on loan, they are now back to not being represented in the national teams.

None of their senior players are currently set to go to the Euro 2024 tournament, with Poveda, Ugbo, Phuthi and Bernard all playing in North America, South America and Africa.

Liam Palmer has been called up for international recall

However, journalist Joe Crann has now tipped Liam Palmer to make the move from the Championship to the European Tour this summer.

Hitting X, Crann wrote: “I wonder if Liam Palmer has been discussed by Scotland before the Euros… The Scots have some big injury problems and the squad numbers have just gone up. He finished the season unbeaten, scored important goals and showed his versatility again.”

Where would the defender fit into the Scotland team?

Scotland could be without Grant Hanley, Kieran Tierney, Nathan Patterson and Aaron Hickey as they travel to Germany next month.

Steve Clarke’s only real option to bring in is Anthony Ralston, who has managed just five starts for Celtic this season.

Palmer amassed eight competitive international caps for Scotland before falling out of favor in 2021.

Wednesday’s return to the Championship and Palmer’s positive impact on the relegation battle this term have certainly caught Clarke’s attention in recent months.

The 32-year-old has a wealth of experience and can prove to be a real leader for a number of young players in the squad.

The only reason why Palmer might not fit into Clarke’s plans is that Scotland will often play with a back three, so he is unlikely to fit in on the right.

The full-back’s versatility would still come in handy for Scotland and he could also play centrally, although they have a long list of centre-backs who would be a challenge to overcome – many of whom play in the Championship.
