Watch: Traveler caravans arrive in West Bromwich as Walsall residents complain about litter

Residents of Cherry Tree Avenue in Yew Tree, Walsall; and Beaconside Road in Charlemont Farm, West Bromwich, have seen their nearby green spaces become caravan homes after travelers moved into the area.

More than 50 caravans are believed to have set up on Delves Common in Yew Tree on Sunday evening, with tire tracks clearly visible on grass verges off Cherry Tree Avenue, and were seen at the site until Tuesday evening.

West Midlands Police confirmed on Tuesday that travelers had been served with a notice to leave that evening or enforcement action would have been taken.

Tire tracks were visible from where the caravans had driven

A local woman, who asked not to be named, confirmed that the caravans started disappearing from the commune at around 18.00, with the last one leaving about two hours later.

She said: “I saw them leaving rubbish in the field and heard angry shouting in at least one of the caravans, plus some of them were going into the bush and using it as a toilet.

“I was absolutely devastated when I saw them on the field and what really pissed me off was that my nephew has an electric quad which the police told him he couldn’t use there but they seemed to just let travelers onto the field .

“It’s all the mess they left behind and I want to know who’s going to clean it up after that.”

Other residents commented on the noise from caravans and travellers, with two residents saying lights were flashing and generators running “all night”. They also complained that no one in the area could access the land.
