Enzo Maresca makes a mark on transfers

Ahead of another Premier League season for Leicester City, manager Enzo Maresca has made a strong point about the Foxes’ transfer business this summer.

Although they pulled away after starting the 2023/24 Championship season like a steam train, Leicester have finally reaped the rewards of an excellent campaign and the inaugural title.

However, as seen with Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United – the three teams that were promoted from the Championship a year ago – investment in playing staff is an absolute must.

Maresca wants important players replaced like for like

Particularly if the club intends to sell players for financial Fair Play purposes or otherwise.

“The championship is very tough and very long and any team can beat any team,” Maresca said, as quoted by Leicestershire Live.

“But the Premier League is also difficult and we have to be ready and we have to compete. We definitely need to do things in terms of the team, no doubt.

“I don’t care about that (selling players for financial reasons). If we lose important players, it is important to bring in important players. It is not a problem if we have to sell players to solve any problem. But it’s important to be able to bring in players afterwards.

“We have to be competitive. I don’t want to be, this time next year, where I was a year ago. That has to be the focus.”

Should the board consider trying to secure a cheap summer, Maresca has already laid down the ground rules and left no room for manoeuvre.

The ball is now very clearly in the owner’s court.
