Alan Shearer says the Liverpool youngster looks “very comfortable” in the Premier League

Liverpool put an end to the disappointment of recent weeks by beating Tottenham on Sunday.

With the end nigh for Jurgen Klopp before he heads for the exit door, many were worried that his tenure would end in the worst possible way.

But as Alan Shearer hinted, he was “very pleased” Liverpool beat Spurs as he believes Klopp deserved a better exit.

In previous times you could criticize players for not having the shooting boots, but this time Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott were all on point.

Even though the Reds scored four goals, once again, you felt they could and should have scored more.

You suspect Liverpool will stick with the same XI for their trip to Aston Villa on Monday night as the players have a rare eight-day preparation for their next game.

While much criticism has flown the players’ way recently, one man who is beginning to impress Shearer is Elliott, as he told The Rest is Football.

The legendary forward remarked how “very comfortable” Elliott looks on the ball after his stunning effort against Spurs.

The 21-year-old probably hasn’t started the games he would have liked this season, but Shearer likes what he sees from the youngster.

The talent of Harvey Elliott

“And they won the Carabao Cup, didn’t they (as well as finishing third),” Shearer said.

“Since that win, it hasn’t happened for them, in fact the results they’ve had haven’t been quite as disappointing. I was really pleased that they put in a really good performance against Spurs just because I don’t think Klopp deserves to go out like he has in the last four or five weeks. I think he deserves to come away with three wins because of what he has achieved and what he has done for Liverpool Football Club.

“Oh, what a goal (from Harvey Elliott). Looks very comfortable, doesn’t it?! It shows real talent.”

Two more games for Klopp

Some Liverpool fans probably still can’t believe it. But this is the end for Klopp.

What a journey it has been for the German as he will leave a club legend and the man who ended his 30-year wait to become champions of England.

Klopp’s final away game will be a trip to Villa Park. A field in which he had mixed emotions.

On the one hand, during Liverpool’s title-winning season, they scored two late goals, including a winner from Sadio Mane’s stoppage, to beat Villa.

But on the other hand, it was also where the Reds suffered a 7-2 defeat.

And then the final will be against Wolves. Liverpool fans will be hoping Gary O’Neil’s side don’t spoil the party because, like Steven Gerrard, you don’t want Klopp to walk away with a defeat.
