Liverpool transfer news as Gonçalo Inácio position emerges amid race for 23-goal striker

As the season draws to a close, a new era awaits at Liverpool. Soon, Jürgen Klopp will say goodbye and it looks like Arne Slot will be the man to take over.

The Feyenoord boss has all but confirmed his appointment in recent days and is already keeping an eye on the Reds ahead of next season. No doubt he will make some plans before the transfer window opens.

This could include both outgoings and incomes. There has been much speculation over Darwin Núñez’s future in recent days, with the Uruguay international seemingly unhappy after deleting all Liverpool-related pictures from his Instagram.

But there is no doubt that Liverpool will need to make new signings in the summer, and the latest reports suggest that the Reds could be interested in a new striker, while Gonçalo Inácio appears to be keen on a move to England. Here’s Liverpool.com’s verdict on the transfer gossip swirling around the Reds today.

Gonçalo Inácio (sport CP)

Liverpool are leading the race for Gonçalo Inácio this summer, according to Caught Offside. Manchester United and Newcastle are also said to be in the running, with the Reds planning to try to negotiate a deal in the coming months.

Moreover, Inácio is said to want to continue his career in the Premier League. Sporting CP are demanding around $65m (£52m/€60m) for the 22-year-old defender’s services.

Liverpool’s new home shirt for the 2024/2025 season features a CThe chrome yellow patterned design sees a modernized interpretation of the legendary Home 84 shirt, a season in which the Reds became European champions for the fourth time in Rome and the first English club to win a treble of major honours. Liverpool.com says: Liverpool need some reinforcements in defense this summer and a left-handed centre-back who can also cover left-back would be a good fit. Inácio ticks those boxes, and the said fee isn’t exactly breaking the bank for a player of his age, so it would appear to be within Liverpool’s reach.

If it’s a race between Liverpool, United and Newcastle, then surely there should be only one winner. In any case, Newcastle should probably be ahead of United, given that there is much more safety at St James’ Park than at Old Trafford at the moment.

Mohamed Amoura (Union SG)

Liverpool are among a number of clubs interested in Union SG striker Mohamed Amoura, according to L’Equipe. The Reds faced the Algerian international in this season’s Europa League group stage, with Amoura scoring and registering an assist in his side’s 2-1 win in Belgium.

The report claims Brighton are also keen on signing the 23-year-old, who has 23 goals and seven assists in 44 appearances in all competitions this season.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool should be on the lookout for new attacking options this summer and Amoura impressed against the Reds in Europe. However, is he really the man they should be after? It would be a risk to go for a player from the Belgian league and you suspect Liverpool may want to go for someone with a bit more pedigree.
