Nursing home residents monkey with special visitors

Residents of a local care home decided to monkey walk to celebrate their first birthday. Jubilee House, on Queensway, Leamington Spa, marked the occasion on Thursday 2nd May with a visit from two squirrel monkeys from South America.

Antonio, 11, and his three-year-old son Sharky climbed onto the residents and posed for photos. They are part of a group of nine that usually live at Heythrop Zoological Gardens and are known for their vocal range, with the ability to make over 50 sounds.

The celebrations also included live singer Victoria Wilson, afternoon tea and the official unveiling of a new greenhouse where residents will be able to grow their own flowers and vegetables.

For the occasion, a cake modeled after the gardens of the house was made. Philippa Cook, managing director of the house, said: “Celebrating Jubilee House’s first birthday is a moment of great pride for all of us.

“We can’t believe we’ve already made it a year. The past year has been an incredible journey filled with many challenges and many great rewards.

Antonio and Sharky were a hit with the residents

“Having a lovely visit from Antonio and Sharky was a wonderful way to celebrate. It was truly heartwarming to see the laughter and excitement brought by our furry guests.”
