Michael Owen makes his Manchester United v Newcastle predictions ahead of the Premier League clash

Newcastle United return to Premier League action this weekend as they look to continue their charge of European football next season.

The Magpies welcome Brighton to St. James’ Park for their final home game of the 2023/24 campaign. Eddie Howe’s side enter Week 37 in sixth place on 56 points after a 4-1 win over Burnley, four points behind Tottenham Hotspur after winning four of their previous six games.

But Newcastle know that maximum points in their last three games is a must to secure back-to-back European terms. Both Chelsea and Manchester United are hot on their heels and just two points behind, with Erik ten Hag welcoming the Magpies to Old Trafford next Wednesday.

The Red Devils face Arsenal in their penultimate home game of the season on Sunday and will be keen to improve on their display from earlier this week which dented their European hopes. United slumped to a 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

Manchester United’s final home game sees Newcastle in the M16 and it could prove to be a winner, with all meetings for a place in Europe next season. Howe has already managed two wins over ten Hags this term, beating him twice in the space of a month following Premier League and Carabao Cup triumphs.

And for former Newcastle and Manchester United striker Michael Owen, he delivered a grim verdict for the Red Devils ahead of their meeting next week. Speaking to Geordie Boot Boys, Owen suggested the Dutchman may fail to win any of his remaining games in charge at Old Trafford, hinting at a win at Newcastle.
