Who is leaving Liverpool? Six managers follow Jürgen Klopp as another exit appears

Liverpool are throwing the boot room out the window this summer. The club’s old concept of promoting from within collapsed under the weight of Anfield departures.

It had previously been suggested that Pep Lijnders could be among the candidates to replace Jürgen Klopp. While this would have been a big risk – the Dutchman’s only managerial experience so far ended after a few months – there would have been parallels with when Bob Paisley took over from Bill Shankly.

Given how successful Liverpool have been in the Klopp era, there is something to be said for keeping that expertise at the club. But, by design or not, it will be a very clean break with an exodus of personnel from the back.

The latest name to emerge (via This is Anfield) is Andreas Kornmayer, Liverpool’s head of fitness and conditioning and a long-time ally of Klopp’s. The 49-year-old arrived in his compatriot’s first summer at the club and has prompted a double or two over the years with his physical resemblance to the manager.

Obviously, Liverpool were never going to replace Klopp with Kornmayer – although they could have gotten away with it without anyone noticing! But what this means is that the new head coach, likely to be Arne Slot, still has one vacancy to fill.

Slot will bring a number of Feyenoord staff with him, but it remains to be seen whether he names all the key positions around him or whether Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes take the reins. Either way, it’s going to be a busy few weeks for anyone.
