What Kevin Nagle said about Andre Breitenreiter as Huddersfield boss considers future

Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle has expressed his desire for Andre Breitenreiter to stay at the club as the head coach continues to consider his future.

The German was appointed as Town’s head coach on a two-and-a-half-year deal in February but has failed to steer the Terriers away from the relegation zone.

Town have won just two of their last 13 games of the campaign since Breitenreiter took over after finishing the season on six points from their last three.

After the final game of the season at Ipswich Town, the Terriers boss said he needed “time to reflect” before deciding whether to stay with the League One club. The German has aired some of his criticisms of aspects of the club’s culture in the final weeks of the campaign, questioning the unity of the squad as well as the commitment of some players.

Despite failing to guide the Terriers to safety, Nagle confirmed Breitenreiter is the club’s “number one” choice to lead the side in League One, but the owner remains without a decision from his head coach, on who hopes to receive it imminently.

“I would like to hear from Andre by today (Wednesday). Unfortunately, he’s with his family trying to make up his mind,” Nagle said in his end-of-season diary on X.

“Hopefully I’ll hear tomorrow (Thursday) one way or another. We have things to do. I’d love Andre to be a part of building what I think would be something special that we’re starting, so time is of the essence.
