Leeds United midfielder Lewis Bate is to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, currently on loan at MK Dons in League Two.

What Leeds do with the loan players that return to Elland Road in the summer remains to be seen, but some departed on temporary deals with their contracts running down towards the summer.

Luke Ayling and Robin Koch have already confirmed their exits permanently from Leeds, and others could end up joining them in departing.

Lewis Bate to leave Leeds after contract expiry

Lewis Bate falls into that category of players, leaving for MK Dons on loan during the January window after being left out in the cold by Daniel Farke in the first half of the season.

The former Chelsea youngster has done very well in Leeds’ U21 setup since joining for £1.5million in 2021, but has failed to make a consistent impression at senior level.

The Yorkshire Evening Post have shared that the midfielder is set to leave Elland Road when his contract expires very soon, after his loan with the League Two side concludes.

Who will win the playoffs?

Lewis Bate’s MK Dons facing nigh on impossible playoff task

Bate’s side finished in the playoff positions this season under Mike Williamson, where they faced Crawley Town in the semi-final.

MK Dons have been spearheaded by Bate’s former Leeds youth teammate Max Dean this season, but the young striker couldn’t fire his side to a first-leg advantage as he saw a third-minute effort blocked on the goal line after he rounded the ‘ keeper, as Crawley thumped them 3-0.

It leaves MK Dons with a mountain to climb in the second leg, but Sheffield Wednesday proved last season that a hefty deficit isn’t an impossible job, albeit improbable.

It’s a shame that Bate hasn’t worked out at Leeds

Bate came to Leeds as a serious talent and coup from the Chelsea academy, and we thought we had a potential bargain on our hands.

However, he hasn’t had the chances here or the loans he needed to develop at the rate we required.

It’s a real shame he’s ended up leaving for nothing, but I would expect that this isn’t the last we’ll see of him in the near future.
