Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is not expected to be sacked if the club fail to secure promotion to the play-offs this month.

On Sunday, Leeds’ play-off campaign begins with a trip to Daniel Farke’s former employers Norwich City, a team he secured promotion with twice in his previous tenure.

Form goes against Leeds in their hopes of winning at Wembley, however, they currently sit bottom of the Championship form table in their last six games.

Daniel Farke under pressure to secure promotion

When you look at the way Farke inherited a Leeds team in total disarray, you’d have forgiven him for not getting automatic promotion.

However, the way the season has shaped up, with Leeds having one of the top three teams in the Championship and top spot going into the international break in March, it will be seen as a failure if Leeds remain in the EFL for next season.

As for the pressure on the manager’s job, The Athletic’s Phil Hay shares that the 49ers aren’t looking at all to fire the German if he misses the playoffs this month:

“As for manager Daniel Farke, the most likely approach to his future if Leeds do not go up can probably be gauged from the track record of those running the 49ers’ NFL franchise: they are not prone to making judgments or ever rushing to make . it destroys the models they have invested in. They don’t tend to tilt or suddenly go in new directions.”

Who will win the playoffs?

PSR concerns for the dictating 49 and Farke’s decision – Phil Hay

The lingering headache of PSR guidelines for Leeds and the rest of the Championship means clubs need to be cautious not only when committing to a manager – Farke has signed a four-year contract – but also when considering cutting ties.

When looking at the possibility of Farke’s sacking, Leeds won’t be weighing it up and PSR are very much in the equation, as Hay continues:

“The German signed a four-year deal when he joined Leeds last summer. PSR’s picture at Elland Road would not be helped if they have to pay him and it remains the case that he has not made promotion a fixed target for his first year as manager of the club.

“He just set his camp in the interview by saying that his two previous Championship titles with Norwich City were proof that he could achieve the same again – and at the end of the last international break in March, he showed that he could. “

Farke won’t leave but needs promotion next season

Staying in the Championship wouldn’t be the end of the world for us, but it does put a bit more pressure on Farke and him.

Failure to return for a second season would be appalling for us and we would have to see him fired if it came to that.

That said, even if we sell some key players, we are looking to have money to reinvest and give Farke a more balanced squad.
