Once criticized ‘quality’ defender Marcelo Bielsa is set to leave Leeds United on a free transfer

Leeds United have a number of players who will see their contracts expire in the summer and the Whites have apparently made a decision on the future of a defender.

Currently, in the Leeds side, decisions will have to be made on the likes of Sam Byram, Jamie Shackleton and Liam Cooper. Cooper still hopes to extend his Leeds stay beyond 10 years at Elland Road.

Elsewhere, Stuart Dallas confirmed his decision to retire when his contract ends. Luke Ayling, Cody Drameh and Ian Poveda are out of contract in the summer, remaining on loan at Championship clubs.

Ayling is at Middlesbrough and Poveda at Sheffield Wednesday, both loans likely to be permanent. Robin Koch has done just that, cementing a permanent move to join German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Lew Bate is likely to leave Leeds despite impressing at MK Dons in League Two, and the Yorkshire Evening Post provide an update on 22-year-old Drameh, who has been at Birmingham City this season.

Here’s what the YEP had to say about Drameh’s “quality” future, with his contract expiring in June:

Leeds expected to let Cody Drameh leave on a free transfer

Remarkably, Drameh only played 10 times for Leeds’ senior team. Instead, he spent time on loan at Cardiff, Luton and then Birmingham this season, his first full-year loan away from Elland Road.

Winning Player of the Season during a half-year loan spell in Wales, Drameh moved to Luton for the second half of last season and helped Rob Edwards’ side reach the Premier League in the play-offs.

This term started well at Birmingham City, but he struggled to continue that form in the second half of the campaign. An injury struck, limiting Drahem to just 30 appearances for the entire season.

It’s certainly not enough to earn him a new deal at Leeds and YEP say Drameh is expected to be released by Leeds. It is set to see Drameh leave on a free transfer, with clubs likely to be interested.

What Marcelo Bielsa once said about Drameh after his loan exit

Joining Cardiff in January 2022 from Leeds on loan, Marcelo Bielsa criticized the right-back. He disagreed with Drameh’s decision to leave Elland Road on loan, questioning the decision to “abandon” Leeds.

According to The Mail, Bielsa said: “Clearly I miscalculated things. What I consider a great opportunity, those who benefit from that position, prefer to abandon the club in search of another competition.”

Drameh feels like he’s been at Leeds for years, but finally, it looks like the defender will now leave Elland Road. Following Birmingham’s relegation, it is unclear where Drameh will end up this summer.
