Dilapidated church hall could be turned into flats – South London News

By Robert Firth, Local Democracy Reporter

A derelict church hall in Clapham is to be refurbished under plans to build a gym and nine new flats in the building.

St Mary’s Hall, near Clapham Common tube station, is in poor condition and in need of refurbishment.

Proposals to renovate the Victorian building, on St Alphonsus Street, would see the ground floor of the hall resized to create a modern common room and gym.

The first and second floors of the building would be converted into nine homes, including five one-bedroom flats, three two-bedroom flats and a single three-bed flat.

An extra storey would also be added to the building, according to plans submitted to Lambeth council.

The community room within St. Mary’s Hall is not currently in use. The building currently includes a single three-bed apartment split over two floors. Developer Monheim Real Estate UK has presented its latest proposals for the derelict building.
