Moment two boys ‘fall’ off motorbike before it bursts into flames on tram tracks

Dramatic footage shows the moment a motorbike burst into flames after crashing into tram tracks in Droylsden. Emergency services raced to the incident, along Manchester Road and near Edge Lane Metrolink station, on Thursday afternoon (May 9).

One witness claimed they saw “two guys fall” from the motorbike before it crashed and burst into flames. Onlookers could be seen standing and watching in horror from the nearby tram station.




Metrolink services were canceled between Ashton and the Etihad campus as emergency services attended the incident. Bus services were also diverted as emergency services dealt with the incident and fire crews battled the blaze.

A travel update from Transport for Greater Manchester said: “Due to a police incident there is no service between Ashton and Etihad Campus.”

The Manchester Evening News understands the motorcyclist and passenger fled the scene on foot. The condition of those involved has not yet been confirmed.

Fire crews were on the scene for about 20 minutes until the fire was extinguished. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 2.50pm today (Thursday 9 May), two fire engines from Blackley and Ashton were called to reports that a motorbike had be set on fire on the tram lines in Manchester Road, Droylsden.

“Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Crews were in attendance for approximately 20 minutes.”
