Charlie Crew has become the next Leeds United talent who looks set to break into the first team picture in the near future.

Daniel Farke wasn’t worried at all when he looked to hand Archie Gray first-team minutes this season, throwing him in on the opening day and never looking back.

The careful integration of Mateo Joseph shows that the German is keen to bring young talent into his squad and Charlie Crew is someone to keep an eye on.

Charlie Crew was twice named on the Leeds bench amid praise from team-mates

Crew made the Leeds U21s and looked comfortable in PL2, raising the question of when the Elland Road senior might make his bow.

He has been named on the bench twice for Leeds amid injury headaches for Farke due to the recent Easter schedule, while his talents have been publicly praised by both Crysencio Summerville and Gray.

The two senior stars named Crew as one to watch when speaking Football manager recently at the EFL’s end of season awards ceremony.

Who will win the playoffs?

Paul Robinson assesses Crew’s summer transfer plan at Leeds

Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson reckons the Wales youth international’s short-term future depends heavily on what happens with Leeds in the play-offs this month.

Should Leeds go up, a loan move to the Championship or top of League One is suggested by the former Leeds goalkeeper, while speaking to MOT Leeds News:

“I think the fans should be delighted because they’ve got some good youngsters and Archie Gray is just the culmination of what’s happened this season.

“I think with Crew and others, the manager has shown with Archie Gray that he’s not afraid to play youngsters if they’re good enough and fit enough.

“He integrates them into first-team training so the manager understands what he has available. A big part of these kids’ futures, whether on loan or not, depends on what league Leeds have next season.

“In the Championship it would allow them to be involved in the team and get game time. If Leeds are in the Premier League I think it’s a completely different opportunity where they go out on loan in the Championship or top of League One and start their career there.

“It’s always difficult to hit the ground running in the Premier League. Without inside knowledge, it’s the manager who will make those calls and he’s not afraid of the likes of Archie Gray.”

Crew is the next Leeds talent to break through

Robinson is right here, there’s no point in thinking about the Crew’s rush to a competitive debut if we’re in the Premier League next season.

It would be very unfair to expect anything from him in the first place this early, and Lewis Bate is proof of that – someone who will now leave for free in the summer.

If we go up, his loan at the top of Ligue 1 might be the best way to go, knowing he’ll be playing at a standard he’s comfortable with, but in a team that will also win games.
