Chansiri made a move to Sheffield Wednesday at the start of 2024 that Danny Rohl will love

For the first time in a long time, it looks like Dejphon Chansiri’s Sheffield Wednesday are making some positive moves off the pitch.

Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season in which Sheffield Wednesday beat the drop under Danny Rohl, there have been plenty of positive stories from the club.

The Owls are already identifying transfer targets for the 2024/25 season and look set to land their first deal soon, with Leeds United youngster Keenan Carole set to join on a free transfer.

This is accompanied by rumors of a new deal for Rohl, who is currently under contract until the summer of 2025, as well as improvements to the Middlewood training ground.

So Chansiri seems to be getting on, very slowly, with Sheffield Wednesday fans watching the agony and strife of the season just ended.

And Rohl will be pleased to see positive changes being made. But a change, or rather change of mindset from Chansiri and Wednesday earlier this year caught Rohl’s attention.

Sheffield Wednesday offer new deals to young stars

Earlier this year there was a week where Sheffield Wednesday made decisions on a number of their U21 players.

Adam Alimi-Adetoro and Luke Cook were revealed to be leaving, but Devlan Moses, Bruno Fernandes, Sam Reed, Joey Phuthi and Favor Onukwuli were all set to receive new or professional contracts with the club.

It signaled a clear shift towards a focus on youth development, and the seemingly imminent signing of Carole from Leeds United also suggests a focus on youth. recruitment also.

Rohl openly said on his arrival in S6 that he wanted to close the gap between the youth teams and the first team at Sheffield Wednesday.

And he did that as much as possible, with Bailey Cadamarteri breaking into the first team and becoming an important player for Sheffield Wednesday.

The tide is turning for Dejphon Chansiri at Sheffield Wednesday

There are two clear healers for Chansiri at Sheffield Wednesday; time and Rohl.

The protests and general frustration with the Owls’ controversial owner haven’t completely gone away, but what Rohl has done on the field has given fans more reasons to be happy than not.

Chansiri’s mis-spending and mismanagement at the club have set him back big and now he is forced to play catch-up.

But credit where credit is due; improvements to the training ground, a new contract for Rohl and new signings in the club’s sights make for a very positive start to the summer.

Probably the best Chansiri can do is whatever Rohl asks. There is still a need for a Director of Football or someone in a similar role to remove Rohl, but if results on the pitch remain the same and Sheffield Wednesday continue to create more sustainably then there is no real need for concern.

And the focus on the youth team is another huge asset for the club that may have flown under the radar earlier this season.

It will give Sheffield Wednesday their own talent to acquire and develop and hopefully sell for big money, which they can then reinvest in new players or first team facilities and so on; all that keep their the most valuable good, Rohl, content.

This summer is sure to be a very interesting one for Sheffield Wednesday, who could get a lot right but could also stumble over a lot of different obstacles.
