NEWS: Coventry City confirm players to leave at end of 2023/24 season – News

Coventry City Football Club can confirm the players who will leave the Sky Blues at the end of the 2023/24 season.

As previously announced, captain Liam Kelly will be leaving the club after an illustrious spell with the Sky Blues in 2017 where he made 180 appearances and scored 3 goals.

Kelly joined City in the summer of 2017 and was an integral part of the side that won promotion to the 2018 League Two Play-Off Final.

As the Sky Blues moved up to League One, he became captain in the 2018/19 season. The 2019/20 campaign would see Kelly lead the club to the League One title.

As we established ourselves in the Championship, Kelly remained a key figure at the Club. He returned to the starting line-up at the end of the 2022/23 season to lead the club to the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, just missing out on a Premier League place with a penalty shoot-out defeat.

This season, Kelly played in both the league and the cup, with the Sky Blues reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Liam was a hugely popular and influential figure at the club, both on and off the pitch, over many years. Admired by his fellow players, staff and supporters, he leaves with everyone’s best wishes and a huge record of achievements that will rightly consider him a legend of the Club.

Goalkeeper Simon Moore, who joined the Sky Blues in 2021 from Sheffield United, has also been released. Over the past three seasons, he has played 46 games in all competitions for Coventry City.

Under-21 players Dermi Lusala and Bradley Stretton will also leave the club.

Dermi made the first team bench on several occasions and was part of the Under-21 side that reached the Birmingham Senior Cup final in 2022/23.

Stretton, meanwhile, has been a regular with the Under-18s and then the Under-21s in recent years and, after touring with the Portugal first team, netted a senior pre-season friendly win against MK Dons.

Luis Binks will return to parent club Bologna after spending the entire campaign with City. He made 23 appearances in all competitions.

Released:

  • Liam Kelly
  • Simon Moore
  • Dermis Lusala
  • Bradley Stretton

Return to parent club:

A contract offer was previously made to Callum O’Hare, whose current deal with the Club expires at the end of June.

A new contact has been offered to young goalkeeper Luke Bell.

All other players currently under contract remain at the Club.

Manager Mark Robins said:

“I would like to thank those who are leaving for their time with us, the contributions they have made to Coventry City and wish them all the best in their future careers.

“Liam Kelly in particular will be rightly lauded as a club legend. He was a consummate professional on and off the pitch and an integral part of Coventry City’s rise through the divisions in recent years.

“I would also like to thank Simon, Dermi and Bradley and wish them every success for the future.”

Everyone at Coventry City wishes all the players leaving the club all the best for the future.
