Cannock Fire live as witnesses describe ‘explosion’ and businesses evacuated

Glynn Luznyj, Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The fire involves the distribution of the warehouse behind me, located on Cley Road in Cannock. Clearly, this is a large and significant fire involving the entire building.

“Our firefighters have been at the scene since the early hours of this morning where they have been taking action to ensure the fire is contained and to mitigate any further spread of the fire and try to reduce the impact of the large plume of smoke. , which affects the local area.

“At the scene we have a multi-agency response supporting our firefighters, from a number of other agencies, working together to ensure the incident is brought under control and resolved as fully and quickly as possible.

“In the meantime, I want to reassure residents and businesses in the local area that we are doing everything we can to resolve the incident as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, it means there will be a significant plume of smoke affecting parts of the area.

“Fortunately the weather conditions are positive and it lifts and mitigates this impact on the proximity of local businesses, schools and residents, but if anyone feels affected by the smoke, please get out of it, please close. your doors and windows and stay safe. Thank you very much.”
