The ‘Vegan Extravaganza’ festival is coming to Sheffield for the first time

A festival celebrating all things vegan is coming to Sheffield for the first time on Sunday.

The ‘Sheffield Vegan Festival’ will host over 60 stalls, from unique food to clothing and even some live cooking demonstrations.

Victoria Bryceson, an organizer of the event, said: “The festival was set up to raise awareness of veganism and try to help and encourage people to go vegan.

A lot of non-vegans come in and say ‘we’ll never try vegan food because it’s weird and boring’ and we’re there to show people that it’s actually totally normal food.”

The event is to be hosted at the English Institute of Sport and is said to be ‘Yorkshire’s Biggest Vegan Extravaganza’.

Many of the stalls present will be hosted by small Sheffield family businesses, which Miss Bryceson said were “important to support – now more than ever”.

She continued: “We expect the majority of visitors to be from Sheffield, so it’s very much an event for the people of Sheffield.”

Businesses taking part in the festival include vegan fish and chip shop ‘There’s No Catch’, vegan kebab shop ‘Seitan’s Kebab’, vegan pie shop ‘Magpye’ and many more.

Happy Mouse, an award-winning vegan cheese shop from Shropshire, will also have a stand at the event.

Sam Riley, owner of Happy Mouse, said they are delighted to be coming to Sheffield:

“We know the vegan scene is strong in Sheffield and we can’t wait to showcase our vegan cheese.”

Throughout the event there will also be vegan charities that people can support.

Miss Bryceson said: “We hope the non-vegans who come will leave with more information about how to go vegan and lots of new ideas about what to eat and cook as a vegan.”

She said that if the event is successful, it may become a recurring event in the city.

The event is run by Vegan Events UK, who have organized similar festivals across the country, such as in York, Leicester and Pudsey.

It’s on Sunday 12th May and you can buy tickets here.
